Mail Ballot Voting - Requesting A Mail Ballot Package:
Before 4:00 pm on October 14, 2022 you must submit the following information to the Chief Election Officer (or designate)’s office in person (City of Cranbrook City Hall, 40 10th Ave. South ), by mail (City of Cranbrook, City Hall 40 10th Ave. South, Cranbrook BC V1C 2M8), telephone (1-866-210-4373), or email ([email protected]).
1. Full name;
2. Residential address;
3. Address of the property in relation to which you are voting (for non-resident property electors);
4. Method of delivery of your mail ballot package:
- pick up at City of Cranbrook, OR
- regular lettermail through Canada Post to residential address, OR
- regular lettermail through Canada Post to an alternate address that you provide when requesting the ballot package;
5. To ensure you receive the correct registration application form in your package, you must indicate whether you are going to be registering as a resident or non-resident property elector.
Mail ballot packages will be sent out commencing on or about September 26th, 2022. To be counted, your mail ballot must be received by the Chief Election Officer (or designate) in Cranbrook no later than 8pm on October 15, 2022.
Mail ballot packages can be delivered:
1. By mail or by hand to Sarann Press (or designate), Chief Election Officer, Cranbrook City Hall, 40 10th Ave. South, Cranbrook BC V1C 2M8, by 4:30 pm Friday October 14, 2022, OR
2. By hand to Sarann Press (or designate), Chief Election Officer, at Laurie Middle School Gymnasium, 1808 2nd Street South, Cranbrook, BC prior to 8pm on October 15, 2022.
Elector Qualifications
If you are not on the list of electors, you may register at the time of voting by completing the required application form available at the voting place. To register you must meet the following qualifications:
Resident Elector
• be 18 years of age or older on general voting day October 15, 2022;
• be a Canadian citizen;
• be a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration (at time of voting);
• be a resident of RDEK Area C on the day of registration (at time of voting); and
• not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law.
RESIDENT ELECTORS may register on Voting Day at the Polling Station, if they meet these qualifications and provide two pieces of identification (at least one with a signature). Picture identification is not required. The identification must prove both residency and identity.
Non-Resident Property Elector
(a) is not entitled to register as a resident elector of RDEK Area C ;
(b) is a Canadian citizen;
(c) is, OR will be on October 15, 2022, age 18 or older;
(d) has been a resident of British Columbia for the past 6 months;
(e) has been a registered owner of real property in RDEK Area C for the past 30 days;
(f) has received the written consent of a majority of the registered owners of the property designating you as the one who may vote (only one person may vote on the property qualification no matter how many owners there may be).
NON-RESIDENT PROPERTY ELECTORS may register on Voting Day at the Polling Station, if they meet the qualifications set out, have two pieces of identification (at least one with a signature to prove identity), PROOF OF OWNERSHIP OF THE PROPERTY and the WRITTEN CONSENT OF A MAJORITY OF THE REGISTERED OWNERS OF THE PROPERTY designating you as the one who may vote.
